Workshops
Mission San Luis offers several workshops per month showcasing trades and crafts from the 17th century. Current workshop programs are: blacksmithing, candle making, and pine-needle basketry.
Workshop slots are limited and pre-registration is required. Call 850.245.6406 to register.

Introduction to Blacksmithing. Learn how to build a fire in a Spanish style forge, as well as fire and hammer techniques. Participant will produce one take-home item.
First Saturdays

Class Size: 2 participants
Ages: 13 and up (Under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)
Requirements: Long pants, closed toe shoes, and clothing made of natural (non-synthetic) fibers such as cotton or linen. Eye protection is necessary and safety glasses will be provided. Avoid wearing contact lenses.
Members: $24 / Non-members: $30
Learn one of the oldest-known coiled basketry techniques. Participants will learn the basics of making coils and stitches to make a simple basket. Participant will produce one finished basket. Materials provided.
Second Saturdays
10:00 – 1:00 pm
Class Size: 2 – 6 participants
Ages: 13 and up (Under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)
Members: $24 / Non-members: $30
Learn about the history and techniques of candle dipping. Participants will handle melted wax and make their own tapered candle. Participant will produce two finished candles. Materials provided.
Third Saturdays
10:00 – 12:00 Noon
Class Size: 2 – 8 participants
Ages: 13 and up (Under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)
Guests not in compliance with safety guidelines will not be allowed to participate in the workshop. Mission San Luis reserves the right to modify or cancel the program if necessary. In the event of cancellation, guests will be rescheduled for a future date.
