Mission San Luis is a National Historic Landmark located on a 63-acre archaeological site and living history village. Our costumed educators present and preserve our area's Spanish and Apalachee colonial heritage from 1656 to 1704. Each year, over 40,000 visitors, many of them local schoolchildren, walk through our reconstructed council house, church, settler's home, fort, and more. They learn of Florida's significant history by talking to village reenactors, listening to the ring of the blacksmith's hammer and smelling traditional foods cooked over open fires. Here at Mission San Luis, history comes alive every day.
We are grateful for the enthusiastic support from our community and beyond that sustains development and maintenance of the village site and museum and also provides for continuing research and educational opportunities. Our dedicated, caring, and committed donors are critical to the development of Mission San Luis.
We thank all those who contributed to the National Endowment for Humanities Challenge Grant. Although the award period from NEH ended in July of 2013, Mission San Luis continues to benefit from the generous contributions and is now able to use the fund's earned interest income to enhance the Mission's award-winning research and innovative educational programming.
